Fun Ride Cancelled Due to Lack of Sign Ups

Marina International Festival of the Winds to Add Family Fun Bicycle Ride

To Activities Planned For Saturday, May 10, 2008.

 

On Saturday, May 10, beginning at 8:30 am, the Marina International Festival of the Winds is adding a 5-mile fun ride for bicycle enthusiasts.  The ride will begin at the parking lot at Glorya Jean Tate Park, 3254 Abdy Way in Marina, and return to the Park.  REI will be on hand beginning at 8 am to do bicycle checks and minor tune-ups.  To sign up and for more information, please visit our website: www.marinafestival.com.

The Marina International Festival of the Winds, now going into its ninth year, will be held over Mother's Day weekend, May 10 and 11, 2008.  The Festival continues to have FREE admission and lots of wind-related activities and fun for the whole family.

The Festival is a celebration of the wind and features kite flying, hang gliding, wind-related art and science projects, giant kite demonstrations, kite-making workshops, live music and entertainment, food and vendor booths, and a giant inflatable air park and climbing wall. 

Events will be held Saturday from 10 am to 5:30 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm at both Glorya Jean Tate Park and Marina State Beach in Marina, just off Highway 1 and Reservation Road on the Monterey Bay.  New this year at the Glorya Jean Tate Park is a Family Fun Bicycle Ride on Saturday morning.  Plan on having breakfast before the ride at the Marina Volunteer Firefighters Pancake Breakfast. The breakfast begins at 7 am and goes to 10:30 am.   Opening ceremonies, followed by live music will keep the festive mood going all day.  From 1 to 3 on Saturday there will also be a kite making workshop and a Kite Competition to be held at 4 p.m. Free A.J. Robinson Health Screening and Crime Stoppers Children's Fingerprinting will be available both days.

We look forward to another great entertainment line-up this year.  John "Broadway" Tucker will be performing on Saturday and Shinsho Mugen Taiko Japanese Drums, El Sol Folklorico, and the Kaye Bohler Blues Band will be performing on Sunday

Activities at Marina State Beach will be ongoing both days.  There will hang gliding competitions from 11am to 3pm both days (wind permitting) and new this year, there will be skim boarding competitions on Saturday from 11am to 1pm. on the beach.  Please see the Event Schedule on our website www.marinafestival.com for updates and details.
